About Me
I write stories that weave real history and mythology with my own characters and magic. Religion, gender, and sexuality are constant themes, inherited from a fraught Mormon upbringing.
I have some deeply held beliefs. The line between good and evil runs through every human heart. We all have compassion and cruelty within us, and we decide which to cultivate. We can always change that choice, for better or worse.
I’m not interested in fighting across the lines between religions, races, and genders. I’m fascinated by the ways in which we all straddle and blur those lines. I’m suspicious of easy answers. I’m allergic to the word “should”.
Professionally, I studied political science, then law, then quickly made a detour into tech. It’s a challenge sometimes to turn off the analytical brain and write more creatively and poetically. The challenge makes it rewarding. Every word is written by me.
Emmeline, if you haven’t guessed, is a pen name. As her I have a voice that doesn’t come out elsewhere. She’s a cheat code for hiding from my inner critic and a muse that I’ve been startled to find within myself. If you meet me in person you’ll meet a man with a wife and kids. Some people hate that crossing of gender lines. I worry about those people a lot more than I should. Others are drawn to it. Those are my people.
